A clear, structured certification journey — typically 8–12 weeks — with a dedicated client manager at every step.
Submit your enquiry and we confirm the scope of certification — which sites, processes, and activities are covered. We provide a fixed-fee quote with no hidden charges. Once accepted, a dedicated client manager is assigned.
Our lead auditor reviews your management system documentation remotely. This identifies any significant gaps against the standard's requirements before the main audit, giving you the opportunity to address them in advance. A Stage 1 report is issued with clear findings.
The main audit assesses the implementation and effectiveness of your management system. This can be conducted on-site, remotely, or as a hybrid. Our auditors evaluate evidence, interview staff, observe processes, and assess how well the system is embedded.
If any nonconformities are identified during Stage 2, you'll submit corrective actions for review. Minor nonconformities are resolved through documented evidence; major nonconformities may require a follow-up assessment. Our team guides you through this efficiently.
Following a successful audit and resolution of any nonconformities, the BCERT certification committee makes the certification decision. Your ISO/IEC 17021-1 conformant certificate is issued digitally within days, valid for three years with annual surveillance.
An annual surveillance audit verifies your management system continues to meet the standard's requirements.
A second annual surveillance audit confirms ongoing compliance and continual improvement across the system.
A full recertification audit at the end of the three-year cycle renews your certificate. BCERT manages this proactively.
BCERT LTD's processes for granting, refusing, maintaining, renewing, suspending, restoring, and withdrawing certification — as required under ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015 Clause 8.1.1(b).
Certification is granted when the Stage 2 audit confirms the management system conforms to all requirements of the applicable standard, all Major Nonconformities have been resolved, and the independent Certification Manager has reviewed and approved the audit findings. The certificate is issued within 5 working days of the certification decision.
Certification may be refused if the audit reveals Major Nonconformities that the client cannot or does not resolve within the agreed timeframe, the management system is fundamentally inadequate, or the client provides fraudulent or materially misleading information. The client will be notified in writing with detailed reasons. Refused clients may reapply after addressing the identified issues.
Certification is maintained through annual surveillance audits (Year 1 and Year 2 of the 3-year cycle). Each surveillance audit confirms continuing conformance. Clients must notify BCERT of any significant changes to their management system, scope, or organisation that may affect certification validity.
Before the 3-year certificate expires, a full recertification audit is conducted. This involves a comprehensive review of the management system to confirm it continues to meet standard requirements. Successful recertification results in a new 3-year certificate. BCERT will contact clients at least 6 months before expiry to initiate the renewal process.
Suspension temporarily withdraws certification validity. Grounds include: unresolved Major Nonconformities, missed surveillance audit, refusal to grant audit access, mark misuse, or unassessed significant changes. During suspension, the client must cease using the certificate and mark. Suspension status is published in the public registry. Suspension lasts up to 90 days.
BCERT LTD may reduce the scope of certification where the Client's management system no longer covers part of the previously certified scope — for example, where a product line, service, or site is discontinued. Scope reduction may also occur where BCERT LTD determines that a part of the scope cannot be adequately audited. A revised certificate reflecting the reduced scope will be issued. Scope reduction does not affect the certification anniversary date or the remainder of the certification cycle.
Certification can be restored after suspension if the client resolves all grounds for suspension within 90 days and provides objective evidence to BCERT. The Certification Manager reviews the evidence and, if satisfied, lifts the suspension and reinstates the certificate. The public registry is updated to reflect restored status. The original certificate expiry date is maintained.
Withdrawal permanently revokes certification. Grounds include: failure to resolve suspension within 90 days, voluntary surrender, fraud or material misrepresentation, persistent systemic nonconformities, or the organisation ceasing to operate. Upon withdrawal, the client must immediately cease all use of the certificate and certification mark, remove all references to BCERT certification from public materials, and return the original certificate. BCERT updates the public registry and, where required, notifies relevant authorities. Withdrawal does not relieve the client of outstanding fee obligations.
The Client may request an extension to the scope of certification at any time. BCERT LTD will conduct a scope extension audit or assessment to verify that the Client's management system covers the proposed additional activities, sites, products or services. Extension is granted following a successful assessment and certification decision by the independent Certification Manager. The updated scope will be reflected on a revised certificate.
All certification decisions are made by an independent Certification Manager not involved in the audit. Clients may appeal any decision through BCERT's formal Complaints & Appeals process.
Most organisations achieve initial certification within 8–12 weeks from application, depending on size, complexity, and readiness of the management system. Organisations with an existing system may move more quickly.
Yes. BCERT conducts fully remote, on-site, and hybrid audits. Remote audits are delivered via Microsoft Teams or equivalent ICT tools. A Remote Audit Risk Assessment (F/34) is completed before each remote audit in accordance with IAF MD 4:2018 to confirm suitability.
Nonconformities are a normal part of the audit process. Minor nonconformities require a corrective action plan and evidence of implementation within 60 days. Major nonconformities require root cause analysis and corrective action within 90 days. BCERT reviews your evidence before making a certification decision.
Suspension is a temporary withdrawal of your certificate's validity. BCERT LTD may suspend a certificate if you fail to close Major Nonconformities within the agreed timeframe, miss a scheduled surveillance audit, refuse to grant audit access, or misuse the certification mark.
During suspension, you must immediately stop using the BCERT certificate and mark in any communications or marketing. BCERT will update the public certificate registry to reflect suspended status. Suspension typically lasts up to 90 days — if the grounds are not resolved within this period, the certificate may be withdrawn.
Withdrawal is the permanent revocation of your certificate. Grounds for withdrawal include: failure to resolve grounds for suspension within 90 days, voluntary surrender of the certificate, evidence of fraud or material misrepresentation, persistent or systemic nonconformities, or the organisation ceasing to operate.
Upon withdrawal, you must return the original certificate document, immediately remove all references to BCERT certification from websites and marketing materials, and cease using the certification mark. BCERT will update the public registry accordingly.
